Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to

This website is run by West Ilsley Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

The headers structure is poorly ordered.

It is possible to magnify the information on the page up to 500% but some tabs disappear off the page at 175%.

Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.

The map directs you to West Ilsley rather than the meeting address (the Village Hall) or the correspondence address of the Parish Council. Please note that the Parish Council does not have an office address which you can visit.

Non-accessible content

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of the Council website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • Information on tabs other than the Parish Council tab may not meet accessibility guidelines as the Parish council is not responsible for these pages.
  • Some of our online forms might be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard.
  • Our Annual Governance and Accountability Returns cannot be made accessible due to the need to scan in the documentation. If you require any of these documents in an accessible format, please contact the Clerk at [email protected].
  • Meeting documents uploaded prior to 23rd September 2018 may not meet accessibility requirements. If you require any of these documents in an accessible format, please contact the Clerk at [email protected].

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Many of our older PDF documents may not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. However, if there is a particular document you need converting please let us know and if at all possible, we will update it.

Any new PDF or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

The Council will continue to review the website on a regular basis and will ensure action is taken on any reports of non-accessible content where appropriate.
